2-D Field Reconstruction: A Measurement “Sandbox” for Spatial Correlation Analysis

Measurements of a wireless channel’s spatial correlation provide guiding knowledge for developing multi-antenna wireless systems that exploit the channel’s spatial diversity. Typical measurements of spatial correlation obtained by moving an antenna array through a wireless channel provided limited correlation data that cannot be generalized to antenna arrays with different geometries. In contrast, the complete 2-D spatial channel data provided by an electromagnetic field reconstruction enables a wide range of spatial correlation analyses including channel correlation matrices for completely arbitrary array geometries.
